Aftermath Comments Still Out There!
This is a tragic example of status verses Command and Control. I have briefed many pilots at Safety Stand-ups to always treat their next sorie as if it were their very first sortie, to know your machine, and to know their neighbor, (fellow aviators). I'm sicken by the foolish loss of live and distressed by the loss of a very good piece of equipment. A.Zelesnikar,CMSgt.USAF,Ret

B-52 crash
As some others had said,a swep wing aircraft will do you in if the higher wing is vertical to the air and the lower wing isnot getting the lift as a result of its position ,so upper wing gets maxy lift and lower wing gets little if any lift, the result a killing stall to the ground. Now,how about a jet with swept FORWARD wings ? The German aircraft company made one in the 70s.I bet that plane would never have the problem that B-52 had.

That was a dark week for many at Fairchild.
I was on the front lawn of my house on Fairchild with my friend from across the street watching the Buff fly around the base. At one point it flew over at a very low altitude to where the outlines of pilot and co-pilot were visable. I was 13 at the time and as I saw the column of black smoke rise from the flight-line, I was excited because I thought that they were practicing dropping smoke bombs for the air show. I had no idea at that point that anything was wrong. We lived 2 houses away from a bomber pilot (the same who was filming that day) and it wasn't until his wife came out after recieving a call from him that we knew what happened.
