  Unity Security Force Re-opens
Posted or last updated on Monday, August 1 2005 @ 2:51 PM (-0500 GMT)

Nearly two long years have passed since the last Unity Security Force flight occured on 8 October 2003, but today the flight system at the newly recommissioned USEC was unveiled and the first aircraft assigned for operation. Colonel Dean Hall, the former Chief of Staff at USEC and former chairman of Unity Virtual has bought back nearly twenty staff from both Unity and USEC to reopen the Force. "We have established ourselves as a seperate organisation from Unity to recognise the unique nature of the operations and systems requirements" commented Colonel Hall.

For the last two months work has been underway to revamp the old USEC systems and reinvent the force to reflect the changes in technology and Virtual Military expections of today. "Our focus was always to provide a realistic military environment, but one that has a small, definable, and unique operation compare to the other Virtual Militaries" outlined Colonel Hall, "We always were, and always will be, a boutique operation".

There is certainly nothing "boutique" about the USEC website at www.legionimperium.org. The domain was donated for test purposes, but the team have gotten used to it and decided to keep it. "It's part of the family now" said Hall. The site features an advanced mail, document, and policy system to allow to Force to run along similar lines to a real military unit. Hall has used his own military experience in the RNZAF to build an experience that those who also have military experience enjoy. "Everyone seems to think the military is all about action and combat flying... but in actual fact, the 'sexy' stuff only accounts for about 5% of what you do, and in a way, its the 95% mundane stuff that you really come to know and appreciate. We recreate it all at USEC, its not just all about the flying" said Hall.

USEC currently supports two gaming platforms, Battlefield 2 and Flight Simulator 2004, and is now accepting applications at www.legionimperium.org.
