CAP Search & Rescue released by Abacus
Posted or last updated on Thursday, June 15 2006 @ 11:36 PM (-0500 GMT)

The Civil Air Patrol was formed in the 1940s as an all-volunteer organization. Today more than 57,000 members of the CAP continue to serve by performing urgent search and rescue flights, air and ground support for disaster relief, flying officials and staff to remote locations, transporting essential medical supplies to accident sites and performing aerial damage assessment. In particular, thousands of members performed with distinction in last year's hurricane in the South.

Last year, we released our first joint add-on Civil Air Patrol Pilot and have continued working the CAP staff to increase the effectiveness Flight Simulation in their their training programs. The result is our newest package CAP Search & Rescue.

With CAP Search & Rescue users will:

  • fly the newest C182T aircraft
  • create their own missions starting at any CAP base
  • select different search objects
  • generate flight plans incorporating authentic CAP style search patterns
  • locate the targets using custom ELT receivers

“What a fabulous package Abacus has put together," said CAP Executive Director Don Rowland, a former Air Force Pilot. "In addition to being able to 'pilot' CAP's new glass cockpit-equipped Cessna 182, users can also choose different search targets, such as a missing aircraft or a burning house, and different search locations. Bottom line is this new SAR module is going to be a great source of entertainment, as well as an awesome introductory training tool for CAP members."

“Civil Air Patrol's partnership with Abacus has produced another first!" stated Civil Air Patrol National Commander Maj. Gen. Antonio J. Pineda. Besides being able to fly the CAP colors in Microsoft Flight Simulator, owners of the new Civil Air Patrol Search & Rescue expansion package will be able to 'fly' realistic search and rescue missions. It's an exciting development that bodes well for both organizations, especially when you consider this incredible add-on package will also help enhance public awareness of one of America's premier volunteer organizations and provide tangible benefits to the CAP Cadet program"

We’re proud to help raise awareness of CAP members’ dedication to education and saving lives. With CAP Search & Rescue, we hope the Flight Simulator community will become even more familiar with the Civil Air Patrol and the generous service that its dedicated member provide to the nation.
